Frankincense

Helichrysum versus Frankincense

What they are

Helichrysum (often Helichrysum italicum, "immortelle"): a flowering plant in the daisy family. The essential oil is usually described as herbaceous / honey / straw-like.

Frankincense (resin from Boswellia trees): a tree resin that's distilled into essential oil. Scent is resinous / citrusy-woody / "church incense".

What they're known for (topical use)

Helichrysum: commonly used for soothing the look of redness, supporting the look of calm, even-toned skin, and comfort after irritation. People reach for it when skin feels "angry."

Frankincense: commonly used for overall skin conditioning, supporting the look of firmer/smoother skin, and for its grounding/aromatic effect (it's a big "ritual" scent).

Note: these are traditional/cosmetic use patterns, not medical claims.

Sensitivity + "feel"

Helichrysum: can be potent; sometimes very soothing, but still an essential oil — dilution matters.

Frankincense: often considered gentler-smelling and "easier" in blends, but it can still irritate some people, especially at higher %.
